Taking care of your nails is important, in order to keep them clean,
healthy and beautiful. Messy, unclean nails can often lead to painful
infections and swelling. In what follows, we present some of the
important tips that you should follow for properly maintaining your
nails.
- Petroleum
jelly is good for your nails. It helps in keeping them healthy and
shiny. Apply petroleum jelly into the cuticle and around the skin of
your nails before you go to bed at night. If you do not like to apply
petroleum jelly, castor oil will also serve your purpose. Castor oil
contains Vitamin E, which is good for the cuticles. You may apply olive
oil as well.
- Always wear rubber gloves while washing utensils or doing other
household chores. In order to protect your nails from dirt, chemicals
and harsh cleaning agents, you can also wear vinyl gloves. For extra
softness and protection, apply a good quality hand cream before wearing
the gloves.
- Dry your hands and toes after washing dishes and/or clothes as well
as after having a swim or a shower. Damp nails can lead to several
problems, including serious infections.
- Keep your nails at moderate length. Never let them grow too long,
since that can lead to several problems. Cut them with a clipper and
smoothen the edges with an emery board. This will prevent dirt or dust
from accumulating in the nail corners.
- Never bite or chew your nails. If you have a habit of doing so, put
an anti-bite product on them. The product has a bad taste, making you
reluctant to put the nails inside your mouth. Always use clippers to cut
off the hangnails instead of biting or tearing them off.
- Keep your nails clean at all times. Spray some soap on and rub off
the dirt that can accumulate on them. Rinse your hands with a mild soap,
and pay special attention to your nails and fingers. If some
accumulated dirt still remains inside, you can use a toothbrush as a
scrubber. After cleaning, wash your hands with lukewarm water and let
them dry properly.
- Moisturize your nails after cleaning. You can use warm milk, yogurt,
olive oil and lemon juice for this purpose. Regular moisturizing can
lend them a really healthy and glossy look.
- Pay attention to your diet. Drink a lot of water to
detoxicate your body and keep your nails hydrated. Try to have food
items that have high biotin content, like egg, avocados, whole grains
and liver. Following a balanced diet can make your skin and nails
healthy and strong.
- You can also go to a nail salon
to avail of expert nail treatment services. Check whether the salon
provides the best services in the market. Get a manicure and a pedicure
done once every month. This will definitely make your nails appear
healthy, clean, and strong.
Nails need to be clipped, managed and maintained with care. Nice and healthy nails can really speak volumes about you!
