Will fish
oil make me smell? Strangely enough, this is probably the most frequently asked
questions when it comes to deciding whether or not to take fish oil
supplements. The truth of the matter is however, there are actually two answers
to this question.
The first
answer would be yes, fish oil can have an effect on body odor, while the second
answer would be no, supplements extracted from fish will not make you smell. I
have been taking oil supplements from fish for ages already, and I have never
once been told I smell fishy. I also know several people who take omega-3
supplements, and I have never smelled any sort of fish odor on them either.
Having said
that, I have also met people who had a very distinct "fishy" odor,
and they confirmed that it was due to the fish oil supplements they were
taking. On another occasion, an elderly lady told me she stopped taking
supplements because she found the smell to be hugely embarrassing. She also
told me she regretted having to stop because she felt better when she was
taking them.
In all of
the above scenarios I was able to help, simply by telling them to find a
different brand. The easiest and quickest way to tell if you are taking a good
quality supplement is to see whether or not they make you smell. Likewise, if you
burp after taking your supplements, and you experience a fishy after-taste,
then you have not got a very high quality supplement, and you should
immediately consider changing to a different brand.
Fish oil
capsules that contain 100% fresh fish oil will not affect body odor at all, and
they also won't result in fish flavored burps. Freshness and oxidation go hand
in hand. The fresher the oil is, the lower the oxidation level will be, and
that in turn equates to zero odor.
Will fish
oil make me smell is a common question for a reason. However, if you buy a
quality supplement, there will be no smell. Supplement manufacturers are aware
of this, so just look to see if there is any guarantee with the supplements you
intend buying. If there is, then you should not experience any problems.
Lastly but
not least, it's a good idea to look at the Certificate of Analysis regarding
the fish oil contained in the capsules you are going to be buying. Very few
manufacturers make this available to consumers. If the oil they are using is as
pure as they claim it to be, then they have nothing to hide, and should
therefore be happy to let potential customers see their certificate.
